I believe that my role as a therapist is to work with you to create the kind of life and emotional landscape that you want to build. While it can be useful to have an outside perspective to help focus the work I believe that you are the expert of your own life and my role is to be a part of your support system. We will work together towards your goals whether that is to become more comfortable with an aspect of your identity, increase body positivity, or to address trauma. I use an eclectic approach including cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, narrative, somatic and acceptance and commitment therapy techniques.
Some of my clinical interests includes sexual and gender identities and expression, body image, trauma, CPTSD, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and healthy sexuality including alternative relationships and sexualities. I am also interested in treating issues including depression, anxiety, and adjustment concerns.
Sara Burleson is a licensed master of social work (LMSW) in Virginia working towards her independent clinical social work license (LCSW) under the supervision of Tamara Pincus.
